Just 45 Minutes from Broadway

How I wish I could be at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica on October 17th! That’s the opening date for Henry Jaglom’s new play, Just 45 Minutes from Broadway, starring the exciting young actress Tanna Frederick. After seeing Frederick in Jaglom’s wonderful film Irene in Time, I’m eager to watch her perform on stage as well as on the big screen.

I also admire Jaglom for the way he puts women front and center in his films, This acclaimed writer/director boasts an impressing resumé packed with such movies as Hollywood Dreams (also starring Frederick), Someone To Love, Venice/Venice and Eating. Jaglom’s plays include the award-winning Room 322 and A Safe Place – his debut theatre piece first written for the Actors’ Studio and later made into a film with Jack Nicholson, Tuesday Weld and Orson Welles.

The Gala Opening Night performance of Just 45 Minutes from Broadway will be followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres, libations and music. All proceeds from this event will be donated to support the children’s outreach programs at the non-profit Edgemar Center.

Debbie Reynolds: The #1 Movie Addict

“I’m the number one movie addict,” Debbie Reynolds admitted during an interview on my radio show last week. And I think she might be right, for since the 1960s, the project closest to Debbie’s heart has been the collection and preservation of Hollywood memorabilia. She hopes her new Hollywood Motion Picture Museum -- located on Belle Island in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee -- will open in 2010.

It was such a treat to talk with Debbie. She’s awesome, funny, inspiring, down-to-earth, candid and wonderful. She even sang a few bars of "Tammy" for us. Everyone LOVED her!

Hotel Del Hosts Movie Celebration

Some Like It Hot, one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedies, celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, and I can’t think of a better location than the Hotel del Coronado to hold a big shindig for this wonderful movie classic. After all, that’s where the film was shot – plus a more beautiful setting would be hard to find. Tony Curtis, who played Joe/Josephine, will be at the event and plans to sign copies of his new book, The Making of “Some Like It Hot”: My Memories of Marilyn Monroe and the Classic American Movie.

My own memories of the Hotel Del include attending its lavish 100th Birthday Party and spending my honeymoon there. I’m probably the only one who ever got lost at this respected establishment and needed rescue after being trapped on the roof! But that’s another story entirely.

The Hotel Del’s Some Like It Hot celebration is scheduled to take place in San Diego during the last weekend in September. You’ll also be able to hear Tony Curtis, a noted raconteur, talk about his book and his experiences as one of the film’s great stars on my Movie Addict Headquarters show on September 15th at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. Make It Happen

While discussing the possibility of Olivia, her Young and the Restless character, pairing up with Kristoff St. John’s Neil on the popular TV soap opera, Tonya Lee Williams teased, “Make it happen!” As one of Tonya’s many fans, I would like to see her wish come true.

This two-time Emmy nominated actress is delightful to talk with. During her recent interview on Movie Addict Headquarters, Tonya revealed fascinating details about her acting career, including the surprising way she obtained her longstanding role on Young and the Restless, her reactions to a new assignment on Canada’s edgy The Border, what it was like working with Danny Glover in their Poor Boy’s Game movie, and her work as Executive Director of ReelWorld Film Festival, a Canadian Non-Profit Film Festival dedicated to promoting cultural diversity in front of and behind the camera.
