Angela Lansbury: One of Ron Masak's Heroes

"Angela Lansbury is the Rolls Royce of show business," said actor Ron Masak during his interview on our Movie Addict HQ radio show yesterday. Ron worked with this beloved actress for eight seasons on "Murder, She Wrote" -- one of my all-time favorite television shows. He mentioned how great Angela was to work with. "She was never angry, always so generous and professional," he added. He particularly admires the way she helped rejuvenate so many actors' careers by giving them guest-starring roles in her popular series.

No wonder Ron included Angela Lansbury in his inspirational and highly entertaining book, I'VE MET ALL MY HEROES FROM A TO Z, which is filled with great stories about his interaction with famous figures from the world of sports, politics and showbiz. Ron was so much fun to talk with as he related his interesting experiences with people like Steve Allen, Elvis Presley, Buzz Aldren, Ingrid Bergman, George Burns, Ronald Reagan -- and even the Pope!

Ron's book is a fascinating read. Plus his interview on MAHQ comes across as absolutely delightful. He has a wealth of info to share. After all, he's been in 20 feature films and over 300 TV shows.

Here's Looking at You, Kid

In connection with this week’s Movie Addict Headquarters show about Ingrid Bergman, I conducted a survey via e-mail and Facebook to find out which Bergman film is the most popular.

Question: What is your favorite Ingrid Bergman film/performance and why?

Response Results:

40% CASABLANCA

20% NOTORIOUS

15% GASLIGHT

10% MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

5% each: FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, SPELLBOUND, AUTUMN SONATA, and TV’s A WOMAN CALLED GOLDA.

"Casablanca" responses were the most passionate. For example, here’s film critic Phil Hall’s reply:

The answer is easy: CASABLANCA. The entire film is based on Bergman’s character—she is the woman who drives Humphrey Bogart and Paul Henried to go above and beyond what the average man would do under extraordinary circumstances. In order to inspire such actions, you would need a performer who goes far beyond physical beauty into emotional beauty, and that’s where Bergman’s performance shines. I would go so far to say that she was among the greatest performers in the history of film acting.

Thanks to everyone who particpated in our Ingrid Bergman survey.

Why CLOVIS DARDENTOR?

Most teenagers are happy if they get to see as many movies as possible. But three teens in the United Kingdom are actually involved in the filmmaking process. Toby Stubbs, Adrian Bliss and Benjamin Robbins have decided to make a movie based on Jules Verne’s almost forgotten novel Clovis Dardentor.

During a recent interview on Movie Addict Headquarters, Toby explained why he and his two friends became so interested in this particular novel. He talked about the book’s focus on adventure as well as its sometimes comic undertone. “It’s not a sci-fi story requiring the usual Jules Verne special effects,” Toby pointed out.

Many other people are pleased about these plans for a new Jules Verne film. In fact, actor Stephen Fry has already agreed to appear in the movie version. Several British actors, including Ian McKellen, Rowan Atkinson, Joanne Lumley and Jude Law have also offered their support.

Toby mentioned the innovative financing program set up for Clovis Dardentor. “We’re offering fans the chance to become producers and have their names displayed in the end credits,” he said.
