Yankee Doodle Dandy

What a great way to get ready for the Fourth of July! Movie Addict HQ pays tribute to James Cagney, the legendary film actor, on Tuesday, July 2. Film critics Diana Saenger, James Colt Harrison and A.J. Hockery plan to join this celebration of Cagney’s illustrious movie career, including his Oscar-winning performance in Yankee Doodle Dandy. After Cagney’s breakthrough gangster part in The Public Enemy, many moviegoers had a hard time accepting him playing “good-guy” roles, but it’s not surprising that in 1999 the AFI ranked Cagney as EIGHTH among the 50 Greatest American Screen Legends.

Exploring Incidental Gold Movies

The Shadow, The Miracle Worker, He Walked by Night. What do these films have in common? They each made it to a list of 75 movies called “Incidental Gold” by Richard Jack Smith, an impressive film critic who lives in South Wales and contributes reviews to the ReelTalk Movie Reviews website. Richard will discuss some of the motion pictures included in his list and why they were selected during his June 25th interview on Movie Addict HQ. Award-winning critic Mack Bates has agreed to co-host this enlightening episode. Mack writes freelance articles for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and serves as a staff blogger for Milwaukee Magazine’s official film blog. Richard and Mack both know their stuff where movies are concerned, so this show should be a real treat for film fans.

“Incidental Gold Films” airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a Chat. An archived segment will also be available.

Superman Cometh

Is It a Bird? Is It a Plane? No, it’s another movie about Superman. Man of Steel, scheduled to land June 14 on the big screen, stars chiseled British actor Henry Cavill in the dual role of Superman and reporter Clark Kent. Amy Adams appears as Lois Lane; Russell Crowe is Jor-El; and Superman’s adoptive earth parents are portrayed by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. What a great cast! Director Zack Snyder promises to explore Superman’s emotional frailties -- such as loneliness and doubt -- in this latest outing. But we all know you can’t keep a good superhero down. In fact, this one was introduced in DC Comics publication of Action Comics #1 way back in 1938, which means he turns 75 this year. Way to go, Superman!
